Okay, I was attempting to hook up my parent's new RCA soundbar with their new RCA 42" LED TV and was getting frustrated. hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction.

The only connection the soundbar supports is a red/white RCA for left and right audio channels (came with cable). I attempted to hook it straight into the television's red/white audio output jacks, but could not get it to work. Alternatively, I tried hooking the soundbar directly into the DirecTV satallite box as well, but could not find any options in the DirecTV menu for selecting sound output.

Potentials:

1. The television may only have an audio INPUT that I was attempting to configure. (perhaps an adapter is needed)
2. The television's audio setting has to be in some way turned off in order for the soundbar to function? (menu option for this grayed out, cannot access to assess)
3. i don't know what the heck I'm doing with the DirecTV option menu as I've never used one...so I'm missing something?

Thank you in advance for helping me troubleshoot this!

Thanks for the feedback, I thought that might be the issue...I've orderd a spdif cable and converter box, we'll see how it works tomorrow night. BTW, that converter box is WAY overpriced on that website, Amazon and monoprice are better bets to anyone who reads this in the future.
