computer keeps typing periods and beeps for several minutes when booting up

My Gateway laptop "screams" loud beeps while booting for the past two days, this "siren" sound last for a few seconds to a few minutes, what could the problem be? Also, once it is up and running, it continues to randomly type periods..............I have to use the backspace key several times to get it to stop, are these issues related or two separate issues?

Yes, they are related. The PC will beep when it receives excessive or unexpected signals from the keyboard, and the appearance of periods proves that the laptop thinks you're pressing that key. First check that the period key isn't stuck to rule out a simple problem. If not, the keyboard needs to be replaced.
