My Laptop is a Dell Studio 1555.

I normally open laptops and clean the dust out etc. and I've never had a problem. I was a little rough with my main laptop today and accidentally ripped a wire out of its connector. I've never been worried when it comes to computers so this is a first. Is there any way to repair this? How would I? Find another wire with connector attached and cut my wire in half and put those together?
I'm honestly not sure.

Here are a few pictures. The red arrow is where the cable was. The second picture shows the cable going back to the button (atleast I think its the power button wire)

Solution
That's good, you have find where the red wire goes, because the black wire goes on the first or last pin, depending the way you look at the connector.
Hi, are you good at soldering the wires back to the connector ? You rip the wires from the connector for the Power Button Board. Going to this board you have three wires, one is the ground and the other two are PWRLED and POWER_SW. So I deduct the black wire is the ground, but I'm not sure for the other two.

I haven't solder anything that small before usually its only been bigger wires. I can take a stab at it. If i mess that up what are my alternatives?

From what i see, the connector with the three wires, you can remove the pins inside the connector and solder the wires to the metal, after you insert the metal pins into the connector. This will need some dexterity to manage the soldering, the solder must not come out outside the pins, for the pins going inside the connector easily. This must be technical to you but the logic will guide you to do a good job. If you mess up you will need the same connector to plug into the J3 on the motherboard and connect with half the wire going to the Power Button Board.

Oh! I didn't know the pins came out! That helps alot. I'll see what I can do. Have to go buy more soldering wire. I will find out tomorrow if I have the skills necessary.

I looked on the connector itself and there is still a bit of red left on one pin so I've narrowed it down to two.
How great is the danger of mixing up PWRLED and POWER_SW wires? I've done it before on my desktop and nothing happened. so I assume its okay if i mix it up as I can always reverse it? Right?

The black wire goes first im pretty sure. Since the red is at the very end of the connector. I'll give it a try and let you know.
