I can't hear sound out of my monitor (but I see the sound working)

I know that I have my cords plugged in but I can't hear any sound its only when I plug my headphones I can hear any sound so I need some help!!

Also it is a new asus and it is realtek...

Also sorry for the bad grammar I'm just frustrated as I spent an hour on this.

can you clarify what you mean? does the monitor have built in speakers? what are the cords? and when you plug the headphones in, does the sound only come out through the headphones or to headphones+monitor, or just out the monitor?

could you also clarify what you mean by "I see the sound working". The last time I checked you couldn't see sound.

The monitor has built in speakers, the cord the connects is a hdmi, I plug in my headphones there is sound and there is no dual sound for both head phone and monitor and I do see the sound as I play a video and I check the soundboard to see if it is working and it is
