uhmm well a quick google came up on this review (http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/acer-aspire-v3-551-8458.aspx) below average battery life.
And it isn't really about 4cores vs 2 cores, actually it is how much power such a system will provide to perform things, the ASUS would be better witht hose specs, and quite a few features (again googled it) http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Asus-S56CM-Ultrabook.84093.0.html . Acer makes nice cheapo hardware, Asus makes robust working class equipment normally. So that is basically the differences.

If you want long term battery life you need to give up alot on the computer, no large HDD, no DVD drive, smaller screen, and most of all HIGH PRICE ($2K or more) . Normal battery life for...

If you want long term battery life you need to give up alot on the computer, no large HDD, no DVD drive, smaller screen, and most of all HIGH PRICE ($2K or more) . Normal battery life for ultrabooks is supposed to be around 4 hours or more, laptop are only 2 hrs. But if you mess with the power settings you can go lower performance and get more power out of it (but then sometimes harder to see the screen so dim, takes 'forever' to calculate a Excel spreadsheet, etc.).

I went to a "GPU compare" site and the 635M is about 15 to 20% better in general then the 7640G.
But now I just saw the GT 740M..... So many choices! :)
