Hi,
I'm not a gamer, but I just bought a hi-def video camera, and need a laptop that can handle editing the video. I'd like to get the best laptop I can for between $800-$1000, but I'm getting kind of overwhelmed by the options. I'd rather spend money on speed than touchscreen. I'd kinda like great screen resolution. I was looking at the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 59370005 a few hours ago, but I was kinda iffy after reading the reviews, and now they JUST jacked up the price within the last few hours.

What would you guys recommend?

The 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro can make any video editor rool. With a 2880×1800 native resolution, this laptop display allows you to edit in 1080p while the full user interface of your editing suite stays on screen. For Video Editing, it will be a good option.

Thanks, Alecia! I'm considering it, but...
My brother is my "tech guy", and he doesn't have much experience with Macs. He saves me a ton of downtime, though, so I try to work within his area of expertise. Any chance you know of a good non-mac option?

This one from Sager - http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_inf... - might be worth a look. Have you chosen your video editing software yet? If not you might want to check the minimum requirements for the one you want to use and find a laptop that exceeds the minimum requirements. Depending on how serious you are about your editing you might want to consider one with a dedicated GPU, the amount of RAM (8GB is better than 4GB for editing and you may want one that is expandable to 16GB even if you only use 8GB for the time being), and the CPU. External storage or the ability to add a second hard drive should also be a consideration as it would be best to have the editing software on one drive and the project assets on a second drive.
