Hi All,
I need some help diagnosing a fault with a laptop. I hope someone can help me.
The laptop is an ASUS x52f-ex1399v,
Processor = i3-380m
RAM = 4GB DDR3
The laptop powers on goes to bios screen and hangs there for a few seconds, the CPU fan starts whirring (and doesn't stop) before showing an error:
"error sending end of POST message to ME".
It then goes to the loading windows screen but crashes and powers down before the OS loads. Occasionally it goes to chkdsk or the (F8) advanced start up options screen but either way it crashes soon after.
At the BIOS screen there is no prompt to "press F-something" so I've no way to access the BIOS to either flash it or confirm settings.
To rule out a malware infection I tried removing the HDD and booting using an ubuntu live CD. This is where it gets interesting, it shows the same post message - but when loading ubuntu it says that the CPU has reached critical temp 93°C and is shutting down.
I suspect the fault is with the CPU, Has anyone got any other ideas what this fault could be and how to rule anything else out?
Is there a way to test the CPU without installing it in another system?
Cheers
