I am planning to build a gaming PC either next month or in early January. This PC will also function as my home theater and stereo. I have learned that both Winamp and Switch Sound File Converter will be discontinued next month. I have a large number of FLAC and MP3 audio files which I both created and converted with these two software programs. I need a reliable replacement player and/or conversion software that can both rip music from my audio CDs and play them in FLAC and create copies of my FLAC songs in MP3 format. What software(s) (pay or free) would you recommend? Thanks.

Well even with Winamp gone, it will still work, just not get new updates.

I think it will be many years before it actually has problems stopping it from working.

Many users recommend foobar2000 since it has many plugin's and options.

I have used programs like CDex and Exact Audio Copy to rip cd's in the past(both the these programs seem to have no updates any more either).

In a pinch. I get lazy and just use WMA loss-less in media player for quick ripping(I am sure you will see NO fans of this approach, but it does work).

Count me as a fan ;)

Actually, I make two rips: one WMA loss-less (archiving), and one MP3-320k (for streaming / mobile)
