I play PS2 on a G7 2233CL (Same processor, video card.) The game is playable but definitely bogs down in big fights. One thing I would recommend is maxing out the ram (Mine came with 6 but im putting it to the limit of 8 with two 4 gig 1600s) Since the graphics are integrated you are really looking at about 3GB of system memory and 3GB of video memory( 3x the min requirement for PS2 GPU memory) so by default you're overkill on the GPU memory and lacking the system memory.

The Answer, abbreviated: Yes. Get it to 8gb of ram though. Also, check the HP user manual it lists compatable upgrade parts (I found out today I can slap an A10 in mine)

As a followup: The game is playable with your system. Competitively you are at a disadvantage though due to the performance.

I got 8 gigs of ram and also found the AMD A10-4600m w/ Radeon 7660G graphics for under 50 dollars. Get this processor and stick it in your laptop (Took me about an hour from start to finish to switch it out) Also, max the ram. Get the fastest stick of 8gig memory if you can, or just get 2 sticks of 4 gigs. These g7 boards can support up to 8gigs but most of them ship with only 6 gigs in them which is kind of tight between the 3gigs your R7660G will use. I got my laptop in the end of 2012 and I have been very happy with it.

I also found software from AMD I forget what it's called (something forge) but it lets you change the operating frequency of your graphics card. When I opened up the program it indicated my gpu was at 689MHZ but had a limit of 1300MHZ. CAREFUL! If you jack up the frequency monitor the heat CLOSELY! DONT RUN THESE APU'S OVER AT OR OVER 100celsius (the overclocking software will provide you with temp information) Just dont run this thing hot - if it was just the CPU at risk I would say buy 2 cpu's and burn it to the ground at 1300mhz BUT you risk burning out the mother board and other internal components due to their close proximity.

Finally, AMD released their A-10 5750m which boasts another 200MHZ of processing power and upgraded radeon discrete chipset. It's not a huge jump but at 80 dollars it is a great option to upgrade from your A8-4500. So, ya it will run PS2 but you're looking at around 5FPS in the big fights and around 20 otherwise. Upgrade the APU get some good thermal paste keep the vents clean and watch the temp readings if you overclock.

After my upgrades (+2 gigs ram, faster CPU/GPU) I get 50~ FPS standing at the warpgate and anywhere from 12-46 during regular gameplay, it's still slow but less "unplayable". These rates are with VERY LOW settings mind you.
