I have a Lenovo T60 laptop which had a fine working battery a few months ago, but was unplugged since then. Now it won't hold a charge at all. When I check the winXP power manager it says:

How can a battery go completely useless? Even having it plugged in for 2 hours wont give it one second worth of charge, so I think there's a digital switch preventing it from charging. Is there any way for me to get it to charge? Just if it could hold a few seconds worth of charge would be all I really need. The battery was completely discharged and needs to be charged. this may take up to 10 or more hours.
irrepable damage to the battery has been detected. replace the battery with a new one.
your battery can store 54% of its original full charge capacity.
