Hello - I'm trying to install a Sony soundbar to an RCA brand television. The soundbar is the HTCT260. Connections include - HDMI input/output and analog and digital inputs. The TV has 2 HDMI (none are ARC) and red/white audio connections as well as digital output. I've tried just about everything I can imagine to setup this soundbar but nothing has worked - I can connect it via optical to the cable box, but then the DVD sound is lost and replaced by the cable box. I've tried using a converter box that takes analog from the TV and changes it to optical - no luck. The speaker output on the TV is also set to PCM. Other equipment I'm trying to connect it to - cable box and DVD - both are connected to the TV via HDMI. Bluetooth works fine on the soundbar and subwoofer - so I know the equipment is not faulty. I've tried to contact Sony - they won't help because it's an RCA tv and RCA won't help because it's a Sony sound bar. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Connect the digital audio cable from your TV to your Soundbar, you might also have to look in the TV audio settings to set the inputs to use the Digital audio out, but if you have it connected from TV to Soundbar, whatever is played out of the TV (regardless of input) will output through the soundbar.

That's an optical cable - I wish the TV had an optical connection, it would be simple as connecting the two. That's how I'm able to connect to the cablebox and get sound through the soundbar - taking the optical cable from the soundbar to the cablebox and it works great, but when we try to play a DVD, there is no sound from the DVD, whatever is on through the cablebox - it overrides it. The tv is an RCA brand - it's about a year old, so I'm surprised myself that it doesn't have an optical connection.

The TV says it has digital coax out, and the sound bar should have a digital coax input, that doesn't work properly? I don't see another great way to get the output from your TV to your soundbar (and that's the config you want, any input to the TV outputting to the soundbar) besides the digital audio. Worse comes to worst you could get one of these (your TV mention the Analog audio out is shared with the headphone jack) http://www.monoprice.com/Product?seq=1&format=2&p_id=5597&CAWELAID=1329451863&catargetid=320013720000010980&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=COXxoLGB5boCFa1AMgoduTYAFw

No coax input on the soundbar - HDMI input and output, analog, and digital optical. So with the cable you mentioned - I plug the RCA cables to the TV and the stereo male to the analog on the soundbar? Yes it does have a headphone jack audio out - but I have nowhere to plug the RCA cables into on the soundbar.

http://store.sony.com/ht-ct260h-soundbar-wireless-subwoofer-zid27-HTCT260H/cat-27-catid-All-Sound-Bars This is your exact soundbar? The specs there list digital audio:

Receiver Inputs and Outputs
Coaxial Audio Digital Input(s) : Yes
Optical Audio Input(s) : Yes
Analog Audio Input(s) : Yes

But of course, when I look in the manual it shows no digital coax input. You would be able to use a straight 3.5mm cable to connect the two, from your headphone out to your analog in on the sound bar, or they do offer these as well: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?seq=1&format=2&p_id=2948&CAWELAID=1329448148&catargetid=320013720000010661&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=COrL_byF5boCFYgWMgodrCkATQ

That's an Optical to Digital audio active converter, that would probably work to enable the digital audio. Please take all I say with a grain of salt and do a little investigation before you go out spending money, I don't wanna make you waste money, these are just the alternatives I have come up with that I think should work, I am no expert but in general I have a pretty good grasp on these things.

the 260H is the soundbar - I don't know if the coax input in a typo on their part, but there is no input of such. I purchased this converter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055EBH5S/ thinking I could take my RCA connection and convert it to optical - but that didn't work. The reviews were great - other people were able to connect their soundbars to TV's that didn't have an optical connection. I've already had so many issues that I tried to return the soundbar but Amazon said it was not "returnable" so they refunded me the full amount and let me keep the soundbar...so I'm just trying to make it work.

Ahh I see, so where are the R/W cables coming from the TV? If I am reading correctly, you would need to use that cable I linked previously (the 3.5mm to Analog) and then from that into the box.

It's an HDMI input and output - there is no input selector. One of the HDMI's you can connect to a TV that has HDMI ARC and the other is a standard HDMI. I have tried connecting the soundbar optical to cable box, then DVD to the soundbar via hdmi...the optical still overrides all of the sound (even from the DVD). That switch does look interesting - I'll do some digging into that. It's a tricky situation and I've tried it all really. It seems like it should be simple enough - well, if the TV had an optical connection, which it doesn't :( I've been messing around with it too long, figured I would get a fresh perspective.
