Using TV remote to control pc speakers

I recently received Logitech Z323 pc speakers. I'd like to use them with my tv, but I'm unsure how to use the tv remote with them for volume control. I tried plugging the 3.5mm cord into the port labeled "pc audio" on my tv and it does nothing. If I hook up rca cables the speakers do work, but I can't control the sound with the tv remote. How can I fix this problem?

Solution
The pc audio port is NOT your headphone socket. hdmi does indeed carry sound. But, there was a time when a separate audio channel was required for carrying audio from the pc to the tv because graphics cards did not have the capability of inserting that audio signal into the hdmi cable. It should also be noted that different tvs can also support DVI and vga, neither of which carry an audio signal.

Like I said before, not all tvs have headphone sockets. It will be exclusively marked if you do have it. But it sounds like you don't.

The last chance is to go into your tv menu and select a different audio output. My own has a choice between tv speakers and optical output (to an external decoder).

The pc audio port for inputting audio from your pc into your tv when the video link from your pc to tv does not support it.

As to how you would control the volume of external speakers using your tv remote, about the only suggestion I can think of is to plug them into the headphone socket. Every other audio output on the tv that I can think of cannot be turned up or down.

So I would need a cord to go from the headphone jack on the speaker to the pc audio on the tv?

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough.

You would need to connect the 3.5mm jack from your speakers to the headphone socket on the tv (assuming your tv has a headphone socket as not all tv do)

I'm pretty sure the "pc audio" port is the headphone jack on my tv. I'm streaming a movie from my pc to tv right now using hdmi but sound will only come from the tv speakers. I'm wondering if the hdmi has anything to do with it.
