Backlight switch info?

How does the laptop know when to turn the backlight on or off? there doesnt seem to be a mechanical switch of the sort.

Hi, you don't a mechanical switch for it, but you have a combination of keys (Fn +F?) to turn it off or on after.

I didn't explain enough I think. I meant when the lid closes.

I understand, some old laptop have a mechanical switch, but the most recent have a magnetic switch. You have a magnet in the lid and a component who detect the magnet when you close the lid.
