Finished encoded video file in HandBrake is 0 seconds long but 180MB

I have a long (over one hour) raw video clip I recorded in Fraps and need to compress as it's 130GB. I loaded up handbrake and set my encoding settings, and after about 2 hours of encoding I had my finished .mp4 file that was 180MB. However when I opened it with windows media player I got the unsupported file type message. Switching to VLC I was able to open the file but it was 0.00 seconds. I'm at a loss.

I noticed in the image you provided there is nothing set under source for width or height. Just out of curiosity I opened an AVI file in Handbrake and it showed the following, Source: 720x480 Aspect Ration 1.33, and below that Width 720, Height (none). It showed the correct settings for the video I chose to open. Upon further review I see the settings are exactly the same as the ones in your picture if no file has been selected. What do you see under Output settings when you have that file open? Also check the Video tab and see what settings you have there with the file open.

It looks as though it is seeing the video correctly. Not sure what is going on there. The only thing I can think of is to tweak the settings and see what happens. If you are interested in another conversion program try MPEG Streamclip (a free download: http

When you load a file into MPEG Streamclip you will get a video preview. You may also want to download - KL QuickTime Alternative 1.81

/www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_alternative/2615). I only recommend this program because I use it. This will give you an alternate conversion program and is worth a shot.

I figured it out. It was pretty simple in the end. My file was over 4GB and handbrake won't render files correctly that are over 4GB unless the large file size checkbox is checked. What I read said that it's a 32bit compatibility thing. Thanks for the help though!
