I need a replacement 17" laptop, multiple hard drives 32gb ram quad core i7, for Photoshop work.all easy to get.
the stumbling block is the graphics card.Adobe say CS6 uses the mercury graphics engine and not cuda and Ive researched till my glasses misted over but cant find the solid info I need to make a decision.Has anyone been there done that ?

Solution
Correct. What Adobe Mercury engine uses is OpenGL/CL for photoshop acceleration. (Keep in mind though, that certain 3rd party plug-ins do use CUDA in photoshop.) You still just want the most powerful card you can afford with more VRAM, the more powerful the card, the wider the memory bandwidth which will let you deal with bigger pictures more efficiently. Think GTX 765m (with 2GB) and up, in my opinion.

Cheers!

Thank you,
That site is on my read it list:) but its good to get a card model number,at least it gives me a base line to look at.
Buying a graphics card for a PC is straightforward but in a laptop its a one off decision for the life of the laptop so I want to get it right.
I know whatever I choose will be superseded in short order but that's life.:D
