Hey guys, for the last couple days I've been experiencing random FPS drops/stuttering in all of my games. Anything from league of legends, total war Rome 2, to assassin's creed 3. I did serveral things to try and fix it, including opening up my computer and cleaning dust out of the fans, uninstalling any useless programs, and defragmenting my harddrive. Nothing seemed to work! I did a little research online and then decided to check out my BIOS. what i did there is disabled "Speedstep" and suddenly everything is running great again 0__0?? in fact, my fans are running slower and less noiser then before as well. What the heck?! I'm not incredibly computer savy so can anyone explain to me why this worked or possibly offer any alternative fixes for the stuttering issue? When i enable speedstep, the stuttering reoccurs. So confused x.x Thanks for the help. Anything is appreciated

oh and btw this is my computer/specs:

As long as the speed step fixed the issue I wouldn't worry about it. What you might want to do is check for a bios update but generally you don't want to update if you don't have to, prepare to have to reinstall the OS just in case if you decide to go that route, sometimes it works out fine and sometimes you will hit some snags.

I have speed step turned off on my computer because it's over clocked so constantly sits as 4.5GHz and when there isn't any load there is no real difference...

Speed step will alter your CPU core clock to save energy, what is probably happening is it's down clocking your CPU at the wrong times(when your gaming) causing the drop in fps. The only real difference with it turned off is that you will use more electricity when your doing non-intensive stuff but it's very minor and the amount of money saved is negligible.

So is there any real concern that there is random stuttering out of the blue? >o< any way to adjust things so I can have it turned on again and prevent down clocking of the CPU? Or would you suggest just keeping speedstep off? Thanks for the reply =)

I have speed step turned off on my computer because it's over clocked so constantly sits as 4.5GHz and when there isn't any load there is no real difference in temperature versus if the core clock was lowered for efficiency.

If the issue comes back you can always monitor your CPU and GPU clocks and load values to confirm what the issue is. I use CPUz and GPUz.
