Looking for a good desktop audio solution

I'm going to build a gaming rig soon, and I'm more or less settled on the components. But there's one thing I haven't thought of yet, speakers. I'm looking for speakers with good sound that are good for gaming (with good bass I guess) and for music. I'm getting the Maximus VI Formula motherboard if that's relevant for the soundcard. Don't have a preference regarding stereo vs surround, I just want good quality sound and a good bang for the back. I'm willing to go to 450~ish dollars max, but if it can be lower then that, it would be great.

I always see "audiophiles" saying to stay away from Bose, so I'm not really sure. Gonna look at the reviews for those anyway, thanks

Bose is generally overpriced for what that are. They are the Monster cable of speakers.

I have a set of older Dell 5650 5.1 setup. Amazing sound for that price.

If spending $400+, I'd go with an actual receiver and speakers.

@USAFRet I actually don't mind doing that, but If I can get a good sounding 200$ pair of speakers I would also be very happy. I'm not aiming to spend 400+ that would only be the case if I found something that's really worth it. If you can recommend a receiver and speakers I can have a look at that.

ive never saw an audiophile recommend a bose
for best quality you should get a receiver and decent speakers
it really depends on how sensitive you are to sound and music
go to a hardware store and test the speakers yourself and choose the one that impresses you the most
if you want 5.1 you can get these ones http

I would say a quality starter 2.1 for that kind of money is a realistic target? $200 could land you a half decent active sub such as BIC F12, Polk PSW505, etc? The rest on receiver/bookshelf speakers and u set

I can't find the BIC F12 or the Polk PSW505 anywhere here... :L And I'm really a noob when it comes to home audio, I would really appreciate it if someone would recommend the receiver and bookshelf speakers too. Thanks

I have a set of Energy Take Classic ($150 last holiday season) + Polk sub woofer ($80 last year) + an Onkyo receiver.
Total - $450.
Nice sound for that price.
