Hey guys.

I'm looking to buy a 7.1 surround sound headset for gaming but I don't know which to get and don't know if it would be better to get a dedicated sound card (or even use my on board sound) and an analogue headset or get a USB headset with a built in sound card, so hopefully someone can help me out.

I'm currently using on board sound from my Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P motherboard with a cheap Turtle Beach headset which is of poor quality.

Hopefully someone can recommend a good combination of headset/sound card or headset/on board sound.

in terms of gaming accesories, razer is the way to go. the kraken 7.1 is an excellent virtual surround usb headphone.(usb is generally better if your onboard sound sucks.) if you want 100% true, no virtualization surround, go for the tiamat 7.1.

the Tiamat 7.1 is decent. I've tested a pair for about 4 months and the surround sound was good, but I wasn't too crazy about how they sounded in music / cinema. build quality could be a bit heftier. the mic, surprisingly, is amazing tho

The Corsair vengeance 2000 is one of the better budget wireless models going. the 1500 version is wired but usb based, so not worth the trouble imo.

analog + soundcard is definitely the way to go. get a good 3.5mm stereo headset and a zonar or something and you'll appreciate the difference.

it depends how high you can go, but the MMX 300 is one of the best analog gaming headsets i've tested if you're looking for hi-fi. but either way, go analog.

happy listening :)
