USB Controller driver needed

I tried to live with Windows 8, I really did. In the end, it defeated me, and I installed Windows 7 on my G6 2253nr. Naturally, HP offers zero support for W7 on that model, but I was able to get drivers for the NIC and wifi.

My big issue is that the two USB ports on the left side are dead, only the one on the right side works. There's a USB controller that's dead for lack of drivers, that's probably the culprit, but those drivers will be MOBO-specific, right? So how do I get drivers for that device in that laptop for an OS that HP doesn't support? If they sell a different laptop with the same hardware, but windows seven...?

Solution
Try using Lavalys Everest to find out which chipset is being used to control your USB ports, then go to the chipset website (like VIA or Etron etc) and download the driver of the exact model, hopefully this method will work.
