Is this a good laptop for me?

For gaming? No - The GT 740 isn't a gaming graphics card. If you really want to game on a laptop (knowing graphic card driver support is limited at best and non-existent at worst), you want a graphics card where the second digit is a "6" or higher.

Of course, with a higher end graphics card, you're also going to need a better battery. That 5 hour 15 minute battery life is under normal usage. Gaming takes power. With the card installed, gaming would probably drain your battery in 2 hours or less and the last thing you want to happen while taking notes in class is having your laptop crash because the battery is drained. Look for a laptop with a 9 cell battery.

To be honest, I don't recommend gaming on a laptop. Build a system for gaming...
