I have a firewire external sound card that I want to use with my laptop. However, my laptop doesn't have any firewire ports.

I am aware that there are NO USB to firewire card, since they have compatibility issues.

Anyone know any clever ways to connect the firewire to my laptop??

Laptop: Lenovo y580
-couple USB ports
-Ethernet port
-hdmi
-vga

OK I read that some usb to firewire adapters do exist, with power from usb, maybe it is not true. esata to firewire will never work as they work very different, usb to firewire should be possible I think, with converter chip of course.

Unfortunately, these are fake. USB just simply, by the way it works, is completely incompatible with firewire. A USB to fire wire converter would likely require a small processer and power source and will cost as much as a laptop, if someone makes them.
