I just bought my new laptop samsung np550 s05in. Its a gaming laptop. It works fine for games but when I try to work on 3d software like maya or max it just starts lagging not lappy but the software. What can be the problem guys can anybody help what is wrong here.

Solution

Did I read that correctly, 70-80% of your memory is being used? Is this with or without 3d Max running? You can try using msconfig to stop programs/services from running at startup.
1) Click on Start
2) In the search box type msconfig
3) press Enter
4) Click on the Startup tab and disable non-essential programs from running at Startup (If you are not sure what it is then do a Google search to find out what it is before disabling it)
5) Click on the Services tab and do the same thing.
6) Click on...

In short, it just can´t handle them well, 3d rendering software are heavy programs that take a lot on a PC, expecially on the CPU, a computer would be able to handle games fine if it had a good enough GPU, but 3d rendering a much more complex duty, usuualy machines are costum built for this, having 8core cpu's with high clock speeds, and big memory cards (2gb+), most machines will also have 12gb of ram or higher, it is quite normal for a laptop to handle games, but not 3d software.

If I read the specs correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong. it has an i7 Processor 3630QM (2.40 GHz, 6 MB L3 Cache), 8GB RAM, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 650M Graphics with 2GB gDDR3 Graphic Memory (Optimus™), and a 1TB 5400 RPM hard drive. In short, it looks like it meets the requirements to run the program. Are you using the 32bit or 64bit version? When running 3d Max have you checked available memory and checked processes to see what else is running that may be causing the program to lag?

I'm using 64 bit version of the maya & max. And in task manager memory shows 70-80 % usage whlie nothing is running. I've never used laptops and there are so many processes that are running. When I closes them they start on therir own.

7) You will be prompted to restart the computer
After doing this check again to see how much memory is being used.

It is without running max. I already remove non essential programs from startupbit still the mem usage is same. There are so many things running and they are either intel or microsoft. So I don't know which one to close or which one not.

Without knowing what exactly is running it is difficult to pinpoint what program/process may be using so much memory.
You can try pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, click on Start Task Manager, and look under processes to see which ones are using the most memory. If you click on Memory (Private Working Set) you can sort from most to least. If you do that post the process and amount of memory used and we'll go from there.

Don't know what happened but my lappy becomes stable, I think. Everything is now working fine and memory usage comes down to normal. Now no memory issue except sometimes my disk shows 100% usage. But it gets normal in few minutes. Thanks kenrivers for your help and time. and I just disable all apps running in start-up, that might helped me. Thanks again for your help.
