So I've been gaming on various laptops for about 8 years. For various reasons, typically related to moving around, I haven't had a good opportunity to fork out the cash for a decent desktop rig. Laptops are notoriously underpowered and I blame the CPU limitations, but you cant really upgrade laptop CPU's (VERY open to corrections on that one).

So I've found that it could be worth my while to upgrade what I have in the ways I can. I'm not willing to fork out 300 dollars for a decent sized SSD so that really just leaves upgrading the RAM. So I'm wondering how much of an improvement would I see going from 4GB DDR3 1066mhz to 8GB DDR3 1333mhz. Really from a gaming perspective, frame rate in particular, not THAT concerned with shadows and effects and stuff. Right now i typically struggle along between 5 and 15 FPS on games like dead island. Better optimised games like dead space around 15-20 is common but still not doing the game justice.

I suspect that this won't really matter much at all because the processor is constantly maxed out at 50% (100% of 1 core). If anyone has any other suggestions that could help me improve my situation that would be greatly appreciated too. Tweaks or drives or SOME way to get games to use more than 1 core that I've just been ignorant of thus far, that would be magical.

RAM isn't going to make any difference to gaming on that laptop. Your problems gaming are not due to lack of RAM, but lack of graphics capability and CPU horsepower.
