All usb devices work except keyboard. Help!

Does the keyboard work on another system?

After u connect the USB keyboard,
Open the Device Manager and check the Keyboards tab...
Check if its disabled....
Hope it helps....

Yes it does. The ones I have tried work on other Windows 7 computers as well as ones running xp and vista

I have checked all through the device manager and everything is enabled. When any keyboard is plugged in it lists it as HID Keyboard Device

Is it all possible that since there is not a keyboard actually on it that its freaking out the computer and not allowing the usb input?

No that shouldn't matter. Have you tried any other keyboards?

No that shouldn't matter. Have you tried any other keyboards?

Yes I have. Both wired and wireless but it doesnt seem to matter

What laptop is it? maybe you need to disable the original laptop keyboard in the settings. Check bios for other settings that might mess with it.

The laptop is a hp dv5 notebook. Where in the bios would they have keyboard configuration?

The keyboard gets power but has no function really. If I hit different keys some of them make the cursor tab over or close out psgea but there is no rhyme or reason to it

Is your USB keyboard getting power ??
Are Capslock nd other LEDs glowing??

I think i came up with a solution....
Is the laptop's keyboard completely removed?

First of all (If u have removed a keyboard by yourself), the keyboard is connected to the motherboard by a cable...
If the keyboard is removed, or the cable is left not connected, the motherboard fails to detect the primary input device and
can't recognize other keyboards,
Its same as if u remove ur primary hard disk and try to boot your pc with some usb hard disc.... U'll have to change things in
order to keep it working!!

Now if u have the original keyboard (the spoiled 1..) connect it to the cable and then restore all drivers and THEN connect
the USB keyboard... it will get you working.... so now you can work easily with the USB one, leaving the spoiled one as
it is....
This is the hardware solution, let me try for some soft solution....
TILL THEN .. TRY THE ABOVE METHOD...
HOPE IT WORKS.....
