So basically, it was just a normal day.

When I got home, I was surprised to find that my laptops sound wasn't working.
So far I've tried:
Un-installing drivers
Loading restore point
Checking for updates
And more to come....

Solution
Yeah I meant speakers connected via the 3.5mm audio jack. If you get no audio through there then it's per fault of the sound chip. If you do get sound, then it looks like just the internal speakers are bad (or the cable(s).

There's no sound whatsoever coming out of the speakers (even though it says that there is)

I'll have to look around for a spare headset to test out headphones.

Same problem on a new N550JV. No sound through speakers, through the 3.5mm audio out socket only some signal noise (and even this not continouos). After updating the Realtek HD audio driver (to version 6.0.1.623) Win8 displayed a "device disconnected" message and I cannot find a way/don't know how how to turn the speakers back on. Is there anything I could do system/software-wise, or is a warranty claim inevitable?
