Hey gang,

I have been having trouble recently with my 5.1 speaker setup. Before I describe the problem this is my setup:

TV Connected to Xbox 360 via HDMI
TV Connected to DvD Player (Which must be on, and controls the speakers) via Scart/Optical Cable/Phono Leads (I believe the phono leads are serving no purpose)

The problem I am having is that there is no sound coming out of the rear left speaker, I have taken out the leads from both the speakers side and the DvD players side and cleaned/repositioned them. If I go onto the DvD players menu and test the speakers they will all work, but once I am to turn on the Xbox or television the rear left ceases to function.

Solution
I was thinking the TV and XBOX were connected to different inputs on the reciever, you have one of those all in one units from the sound of things.

Try bypassing the TV and connect the XBOX to the surround sound system directly. Also, it sounds like you have mulitiple connectoins hooked up, just use the optical one and unhook the rest. If the test internally is OK, but the devices, which go though the TV first are messing up, it could be something in the signal path in the TV. If you hook up the XBOX audio out to the surround sound system, that should take out a variable to test.

The TV isn't reliant on the speakers as far as I can tell, since both the television and speakers will play sound at the same time. As for the Xbox it's set as 5.1 in the settings menu via the optical cable.

Hi,

I have followed your advice and removed the phono leads so now it is only the optical cable connected. As for connecting the speakers directly to the Xbox I have encountered a problem. There is no port on the Xbox to connect either the phono leads or optical cable, the best I can do is connect them both via a HDMI cable, the Xbox only has one HDMI port and is currently in use between the Xbox and TV to provide both TV sound and picture.
