I am looking for a good FREE driver updater. I suspect that windows 7 is not catching all my updates. I just made this pc and it has yet to download any. I can't afford a membership to one of these. So I am hoping someone knows of a good one that will scan and download my drivers for free. Thanks!

There's nothing you need to do for the cpu. The msi program will check the intel drivers for the m/b - the cpu does not need drivers.

The auto updater makes life easy, but for your own knowledge, look at what that updater is trying to install. Check the information about the driver(s) it wants to install on the MSI website to see what improvements you can expect and why the update is occuring. Just another way for you to learn what makes your machine tick.

Glad you got it up and cookin'!

Windows update will catch your basic driver updates. If you built the pc, go the manufacturers website(s) and update to the latest drivers from each. Make sure you get m/b drivers and gpu drivers from the m/b maker and the gpu brand (AMD or Nvidia).

That's the problem. I tried that and there are a list of things to update. I checked my motherboard drivers and BIOS and there are too many options for me to guess on. I am not experienced at all with this stuff and I don't want to cause any problems that will take me all day to fix. I have updated my GPU but the others I can't seem to find out how.

i5 4670k and MSI z87 g45. I am wondering if it could be Killer e2200 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller thats causing me issues as well. The reason I need the updates is I believe its the reason my PC blue screens randomly.

NEVER let Windoze to driver updates.......OK to let it tell you about them but recommend that you do all manually after getting notification from WU and get directly from manufacturers web sites. Prolly 40% of my support hours are uninstalling crap users let MS put on.

For program updates Secunia Personal Software Inspector works great.
For Driver Updates, I'll occasionally run DriverMax, but again just use it to investigate what is available and do all installs manually.

Even WU, use it for notifications and review list....decide what you want WU to install

Thanks for the advice. So you would recommend using DriverMax just to learn what drivers are out of date? I used it about 2 hrs ago before I came here. It said something like 22 Drivers were out of date. I updated one using DM and restarted pc and it said it failed to install it.

That utility is just what I was looking for. It updated a lot of my MB components. I know how to update my GPU and MB now! All thats really left is my CPU right?

Well yes, yes any manufacturer's program for it's own stuff Id trust....Geforce Experience takes care of all things nvidia too.

As for DriverMax, again..... just use it as an information service..... DO NOT let it install anything. Check ya driver version, check manufacturer's website....if it does anything for ya, install it.
