This was my sisters from work - she said she has no idea what happened or when for sure. I turn it on and it has the Compaq screen, goes straight to black with operating system not found. It has/had Win XP Pro, I have the Prod. Key but no disc's or recovery discs. Can anyone help with how to restore or where to get the discs needed to bring it back up. I want to give it to a home-bound person and I have no idea how. Thank You -

Make sure the hard drive is seen in the BIOS and that it's set as the first boot device.

You can get an OEM XP disk from HP/Compaq although they may not have one for your computer. ebay or craigslist is another pick for an OEM XP disk, but you need to be carefull with that as you coul get a bad disk or the wrong version or some hacked version that won't work right. A local computer shop will probably have an XP disk you could buy from them, and most likely would be pretty cheap as you just need a disk copy which costs nothing much aside from the time to do the copy.
