Right now I am using GOM player and I can't get it to sound right like it was before I id a fresh install of win 8 pro. I use %.1 surround with an Asus Motherboard onboard sound and the utility that came with the MB driver disk is Realtek HD audio manager which I heard was not that good with 5.1 so anything would help till I get a sound card

I used VLC before and it was ok definitely better that windows media player, but I am having touble with the sound in evry Movie player I use like GOM there is a bit of static and sometime the volume goes up and down and it is the same with media classic, and windows media player I can't get the 5.1 to work, so I will give VLC a try

it sounds like a problem with your sound drivers, update to the latest realtek drivers from their website, also if you use a keyboard that has audio control it could be causing the random volume changes, a friend of mine had this problem and it was his keyboard.
