Hi, I'm a student about to start college and seeing as my current laptop is basically falling apart and barely works anymore, my parents want to buy me a new laptop. Unfortunately none of us really know much about specs, good prices etc so I thought I'd ask people who know better than we do! I'd really love it to play The Sims 3 as I'm currently having to play it on the very old, very slow shared family computer which runs it really poorly, but I'm not sure if I could get anything within our budget that runs it. Any help would be much appreciated!

1. What is your budget?
£400 maximum.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
I don't mind, as long as it isn't ridiculously small.

3. What screen resolution do you want?
Again, I don't mind.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Portable. It doesn't necessarily have to be lightweight or anything but I want it to be portable.

5. How much battery life do you need?
This isn't an issue either as I have it plugged in 99% of of the time.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yeah, I'd really like to be able to play The Sims 3. Being able to play expansion packs would be nice too but it is by no means necessary. Settings don't matter either, I'd be fine playing it with settings on low.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Not much, I just like to browse the internet, play music, watch YouTube videos, etc. I'll probably be doing things like word processing too as part of classwork.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
Again, not much, storage has never been an issue for me. I don't download a lot.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
Any big, well-known stores, companies or websites, like PC World or Amazon. Nothing obscure, we'd like a site that's popular and known to be trustworthy.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
As long as possible, hopefully several years.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Just DVD ROM will be fine, I only need to be able to install disc-based games and import CDs.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
We don't have much experience with different brands. I've particularly heard good things about Asus but I'd be fine with any brand. My last laptop was Dell and it wasn't great and the customer service was pretty poor, so preferably not Dell, but I will buy another one if it's the best option.

13. What country do you live in?
England.

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
How it looks is irrelevant, I just want something that's reliable and functions well. Basically I just want the laptop with the best specs I can get for £400 or under!

Thanks in advance for any advice! ^^

Sorry but I have no way of knowing what companies will deliver there. Try googling it and maybe you can find it locally. Or well I guess Amazon does right?
This one is inferior but is still pretty good.

This one has a better CPU, but worse graphics. It should still play Sims 3 fairly well.

That one performs worse anyways. That one is about tied in CPU power with the the first and second one I listed, and far below it in CPU power on the 3rd one I listed. Absolutely all of the ones I listed destroy it in gaming also. It has no advantage so its good its out of your price range lol.

As for your selection if you can't get the 1st one I listed I would say the Intel i5 one is probably the best. It has significantly worse graphics than the others but its just a bit better still. The other one I listed on Amazon has quite a bit better graphics like I said and its a great system, but I am just picky and only like to buy the newest generation of processors.

Anyways good luck shopping, if you find any others that are similar feel free to ask us. Let us know what you pick out, and make sure when you have found your ideal system that you mark someone's post as the solution. I don't mind who just pick someone when you are finished so this is shown as resolved :)

Good luck!

I found a great gaming laptop on Amazon that was 33% off so I'm going to buy that :D But if it goes back to its original price before I get the chance to buy it I'll get one of your recommendations instead c: thanks for your help!
