So on my AV receiver, I don't see any input for coax, and I'm trying to get the sound from cable to play through my surround. What exactly do I need to do? Do I need a coax to HDMI adapter?

I have HDMI out running from my receiver to the TV.

Solution

ok then...TV out, either optical or RCA, to the receiver.

I don't have access to the cable box. Would using optical be better than RCA for audio quality? (I have 5.1)

Optical.
And what do you mean by 'don't have access to the cable box'? I'm talking the settop channel changer thingy...

Right - I meant I'm not close to it. I have a coax outlet in my room that runs to my TV.

And thanks.
