So I have everything running through my receiver I pretty much only use my comp and a ps3. I don't watch any televsion on a set-top box. I don't know what happened but my receiver is no longer being recognized by my comp. I tried going through device managerlooking through the drivers updating searching for changes nothing has helped or corrected the issue. So if anyones got an idea, I mean a good Idea please let me know Im dying without my 5.1!!!

Solution
Are all the cables plugged in? haha
Check in your BIOS audio settings.
Reset CMOS
Run this (unless you are win-8) ;http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2081/realtek-hd-audio-2-67-7-vista-64-bit/

no dice, it detected all kinds of inputs but none of them work, I have optical and HDMI, sigh I'll check my connections again hopefully its a fore-head slapper. I'll check my receiver settings as well but I reset my receiver and I had audio but it went silent after I got rid of that f-n AMD 13 beta display driver because it just kept pausing my screen and stuff.

Ok here it goes so no it wasn't a forehead slapper, Im giving you cred. cause with that file I was able to get optical out working it didn't recognize it before. Theres nothing like Mudvaynes' "dig" playing at its absolute highest to let you know your sound is working again. AAAAaaaaannnnnnnnDDDDddddddaaaahhhhhh Boom goes the dynamite gpt HDMI working now. You helped me catch the ghost in the machine. Thanks :)

do you have audio drivers installed? if you are using hdmi output on the video card then you do not need anything but what windows itself comes with.

typically a restart fixes any odd bugs which arise. sometimes audio drivers from realtek or other companies can bug up so just keep that in mind.

Yeah I think when I overclocked my tv it messed up some setting and windows lost my hdmi drivers for audio. I had to re-boot twice before I gave up on the overclock. I know I can get it to 75hz but not the full 120. The realtek gave me optic out so I'm using it. The codec for the overclock won't go away lol and it doesn't support audio for some reason. So Im just glad I got my sound back and it sounds pretty good so I'm gonna leave it be until I get the absolute urge to change it.
