Code:
A relative found an old laptop and said I could have it. It does not turn on. When you plug it in, the charging lot comes on, if you turn it on, you hear a VERY FAINT click (can't pinpoint the origin), all the green lights come on, but no fans, and the monitor doesn't do anything. It does that for about 2-3 seconds, then it shuts back off.

I tried it repeatedly and took out the CPU. The CPU felt slightly warm (I'm in a cold room).

I am assuming the motherboard is shot on this, or there's a power problem, which seems common with these Latitudes.

Any ideas?

The battery is FUBAR.
It tries to charge, then somethimg shuts it down. Try taking the battery out and firing it up. Its worth a shot, but some laptops wont make a connection without the battery in. Generally, old laptops? If you get past a new battery purchase its landfill. . Tho you might get £20 for the screen on ebay.

If I take out the battery, same thing. Lights, no fans, shuts off.

You may be right though. If you try to turn it on with the battery in WITHOUT being plugged in, you don't even get lights. Must be ignoring the battery because the battery is bad.
