i am looking for a good gaming headset (or headphones w/ standalone mic) that suits my needs. those needs (and wants), in highest to lowest order of importance are
-Good build quality/ reliability. i need it to last
-good microphone sound quality. ideally the mic should be noise filtering, non-detachable (not absolutely necessary), and auto mute when raised/ put away (again not necessary, and not likely available on a standalone.
-usable with a soundcard. so no USB soundcard, unless there exists one with good quality.
-on-ear volume/mute controls. like that on the gamecom 780 or logitech g930
-wireless would be nice, but is not mandatory. but it must be reliable, anything with major connectivity problems is a no go.

i have budget of $200 (canadian) and have thus far found a few that i like, if you can find one that meets most of the criteria above that is not listed, or know of any problems with the headsets i have selected, let me know. the current contenders are
-The Plantronics Gamecom 780
-The logitech G930
-The Corsair Vengeance 2000
-The Sennheiser PC 320, PC 330

I can speak to the Corsair 2000 headset you mentioned. I have one and it's very nice. The mic is superb, very good quality. My friends all say that they can hear me crisp and clear. One of them went out and bought it after I did, and I can always hear him perfectly. The headphones are nice, too. I haven't had many high-quality speakers/headsets, but from what I have had, the Corsair 2000 is nice. Of course it isn't going to be amazing or anything in that price range, but for gaming, it sounds nice. The volume goes up loud enough for most people (and I'm part deaf anyway) and it even sounds good for music. It's pretty comfortable, depending on your head size. A full charge will last at least a full night (6-8 hours) of gaming. The only...

A full charge will last at least a full night (6-8 hours) of gaming. The only problem I had was with the mUSB charger. It was a little flakey on me, not always getting a charge through when I was wearing the headset, because gravity would pull it out just a little. It isn't an issue if you just plug it in on your desk when you aren't using it though.

So, if you want a pretty simple solution that is good enough, I'd say you can't really go wrong with the Corsair 2000.

Edit: Oh and yes, there is on-ear volume control.
