You can see that the HD 8570 is one level ahead of GT 720M.
But the AMD HD 8650G integrated will run on crossfire mode with HD 8570 which will give you better results in gaming compared to GT 720M.
The i5 3230M is a dual core with hyper threading while the AMD A10 5750M is a quad core.

If you want gaming the AMD is the better solution since it has powerful graphics.
Meanwhile the i5 have powerful CPU but weak GPU.

If you're going to render videos, etc, the i5 is better. If you want to be able to play some games, the AMD is much better.

I disagree with the original solution.
Putting the AMD Radeon HD 8650G + HD 8570M in Dual Graphics cause intense micro stuttering in many titles. The FPS may get be a bit higher compared to the dGPU only, but the experience is actually worse. And in fact even with dual graphics it isn't clearly faster than the GT 720M in many AAA titles as BioShock, Tomb Raider, Skyrim and Battlefield.

The i5 with the GT 720M is a better purchase, IMO.

If you can, I think you should.
Not that the 8650G + 8570M solution is bad, but I don't think it makes sense if the GT 720M is similarly priced.

In fact, even the much more powerful HD 8650G + HD 8670M array just ties with the GT 720M at usable resolutions in many titles. In others, it manages to win. But it won't matter having 15%, 20% more FPS when you're suffering from micro stuttering.

Also, the GT 720M solution gives you noticeable improvement in CPU performance of 15% ~ 20% in most scenarios, as the AMD A10-5750M is comparable only to a sandy bridge Core i3-2330M, and going for the GT 720M laptop gives you a Core i5-3230M.

Last but not least, Ivy Bridge tends to be more power efficient than Richland and with the GT 720M set to use Optimus, you should see lower power consumption in daily usage with it. Assuming that the OEMs used the similar batteries, screens and such in both GT 720M and A10 machines, this should result better battery life.

Well, not much better than the A10 + 8570M.
Even if the 8650G + 8570M array suffers from micro stuttering in many titles, in others it won't. By saying so, I mean that you would benefit from dual graphics in some titles. As this i5 4200M + 8570 won't give you this possibility, it isn't a wiser choice than the A10 for gaming, since they have the same GPU.

The stronger Haswell CPU should give you a slight performance bump compared to the A10 solution, being better as titles that don't benefit from dual graphics. On titles that benefit from it, the A10 is better.

Hi,

I cancelled that one and its now out of stock. Anyways I have now selected 2 more models, please let me know which to get:

1. i5 4200u with 2 GB nVidia Geforce GT 740M
2. i5 4200m with 2 GB ATI Sunpro 8570

Price of both are same. Which to buy ?

I'd buy the number one, definitely. It's almost unfair to compare the GT 740M to the HD 8570, the former being much faster.

I bought the 2nd one coz I reliased that no one has correct details about 8570 on the internet. All saying that it has 1 GB DDR3 where as it has 2GB DDR3. Hence when I think of it the same way I reliaze its going to be same performance. Maybe a 10% difference but that will hardly matter. Also the 2nd option has faster CPU.

For gaming the faster CPU will hardly make any difference. GPU is king performance-wise.
The HD8570 is GCN card with 384 cores running at just 650 MHz. It's not meant to compete with the GT 740M. In fact, it gets just 60% the GT 740M performance in some games. This is no 10%. The extra CPU won't help you mitigating that issue.

A card to match the GT 740M performance is a HD 8750M.
I don't think that by buying the second laptop you made a wise purchase. Quite the opposite.

Well, I hope you enjoy your laptop. If you're happy, that's what's matter.

Hi,

Maybe you're correct, but my usage is like: 80% work and 20% gaming. So i think it is okay for me.
But next time its definitely going to be a desktop with octa core etc.
