Hi,

I have Acer TravelMate 5510 which works just fine but sometimes when I try to turn it on, screen remains totally black, as it doesn't work at all. I can hear windows noise clearly and I even use keyboard buttons to turn off the laptop "blindly".

Sometimes I have to repeat the process (turn it on and turn it off) until screen starts to work. After I turn it on, screen comes on and it works just fine. USUALLY, if I leave the laptop off for longer period of time (when I sleep), in the morning i have to turn on again and again until screen starts working.. what's wrong? MB? RAM?

Tl;dr - laptop screen sometimes doesn't turn on when booting

Thanks

Check your Power Settings, you may actually (based on your description) going into HYBERNATION MODE. That is, to save the entire way windows looks at that moment (open programs, how the windows are sitting on the desktop, etc.) and store it as a FILE to the Hard Drive. It take a long while to boot from that mode for some systems (load all the setttings, etc.) than normal boot mode. By your constant killing it in the middle of the procees, your forcing Windows to dump / trash the file and settings to load Windows 'normally' from cold start.

In Windows bottom right corner click on the power icon, select more power options. Click Choose what the Power buttons do on the left side, then look at the table and select the correct settings...

In Windows bottom right corner click on the power icon, select more power options. Click Choose what the Power buttons do on the left side, then look at the table and select the correct settings (for example when I close the Lid set to Do Nothing, when I press the power button Shut Down). Click Save changes and will return you back to the Power Plan. Now click change when the computer sleeps, and again set the appropriate times when your on battery and when your plugged in. So if your plugged in and you don't want the computer to sleep, then select NEVER. When it 'sleeps' it will power down to minimal amount but still be 'on' until it hits a time point then move to Hibernation Mode to save the way the computer is at that moment and power off.
