Why does my intel duo core show as amd architecture?
I have a Toshiba P505-S8980 currently running Win7 SP1 that was legally purchased from an independent source. It is NOT the factory installed version of Win7. It did not include SP1 which I downloaded and installed from Microsoft.
I recently replaced my hd with a 1tb from ToshibaDirect. I also ordered the recovery disk set from Toshiba. After I installed using these disks, I was not able to perform many functions, including change screen resolution to the p505's native. It only gave me 2 choices and both were "whack". A number of other issues arose so upon running troubleshooter, the report said 2 things that stood out. First, as the report I have pasted below shows, I have a PnP device with no driver, which happens to be my touchpad and 2nd, It says on both occasions that my architecture is AMD when I know it is an Intel DuoCore.As I have tried many things to get the touchpad to woirk, I have come to the conclusion that it is a hardware problem. The reason for the hd replacement us that the original owner (my son) banged profusely on the kb one day and then parked it for a few years til I rescued it. When I tried to point out to Toshiba Tech Support what my reports were saying, I was told that I was not installing the system software properly. Needless to say, it's difficult to mess up putting in dvd #1 and say YES to autostart and switch to disks 2 & 3 when asked. Repeated attempts from different sources to identify both motherboard manufacturer and to install correct drivers proved pointless. Nothing has worked. Now Toshiba claims that when recovery disks are ordered, EACH set is encoded with the proper warez for the specific SERIAL NUMBER, not just for this model. The main reason for ordering recovery disks was for ease of installation of ALL things necessary to get this thing going again, as trying to locate all the support software (drivers and the like) has proved difficult The other reason is that this machine basically new and pretty nice and I wanted it to be legal. Anyone who can do the things I have done or tried has the expertise enough to run Win7 without legally purchasing it. I did NOT want to do that. For all the help I have gotten from Toshiba Tech Support, nothing but sending me 2 sets of the wrong software and telling me it was my fault, I just want to know what other ideas you all may have so I can return this machine to its full functionality.
