15.5" 1080p or 17" 1600x900?

I just got a sony Vaio E-series which is 1080p and was a decent price, £240 with Radeon 5650M graphics card. Although I don't actually like 1080p on a laptop, the mouse pad is frustrating.

But I was thinking of returning that and maybe getting something a little more expensive such as http

A 15.5", 1080p screen will look clearer than a 17" 1600x900 screen. i don't see what's wrong with a 1080p screen on a laptop. Although, it's all up to personal preference.

If I use my Logitech mouse It's great but the trackpad's sensitivity is frustrating.
Although It would probably be the same on a 17" even at 1600x900? I've never had a laptop over 15.6" so I've not got a clue.

£70 more for 1080p. I Can afford it, it's just whether I'd want to go £50 over budget.

Another thing to take int consideration is what you'll be doing. If you edit videos and multimedia - go with 1080p. If you game, I would also go with 1080p for better quality. 1600x900 is also fine for games - as it is pretty clear until the screen gets too big, then the pixels look big or spread out.

if the graphics chip is doing what you want it to do - and you like the clarity of the screen - don't change it! I peronally think the smaller the screen with the same resolution as a bigger on is better - because it will look clearer.

Well, I think i'll download a few games, low demanding games such as Need For Speed, Football manager etc so it should do fine. I only received this laptop 5 mins before making this thread, I guess I'm starting to get use to it now and for £240, I'd say it's a bargain. I was actually expecting 1366x728 as that's what the specs said, but it has a Full HD 1080p sticker and the resolution goes to 1920x1080 so that was a nice surprise.

It just doesn't make sense paying £200 for a slightly bigger screen that actually has lower resolution - That money could easily go towards an ssd for the laptop...
