I cannot get my 2 jack headset microphone to work using a splitter.

The headphone/mic jack may be one of 2 things.

1. A jack that can be told to be either, but not both.

OR(I hope for your sake it is 2)

2. A TRRS jack. These kinds of jacks have the tip one 2 rings and last the sleeve. This kind of jack can handle both 2 channel out and one channel in.

This is the best image to show the different connectors.

Please contact Lenovo to be sure before getting an adapter, but they DO make TRRS to 2 x TRS jacks.

they look something like this. The ground is common and the other connections are wired to the needed connectors.

Thanks, Nukemaster.

My headphone's jacks look like they are 3.5mm TRS jacks.
From what I understand it looks like my only option is to order a TRRS to 2 x TRS jack to get my microphone up and running again? I'll contact Lenovo about the problem before buying but thank you for the help!

Yeah standard PC jacks all tend to be TRS.

Please remember they have TRS in many sizes you want 3.5mm(may be called 1/8th inch).

With the idea of making things smaller, this TRRS allows 2 things to happen with ONE plug(a good example is almost every cellular phone).

This is why is is so important to confirm with Lenovo that your device actually has a TRRS jack so you are not getting another adapter that does not work for you.

With so many users using HDMI for both audio and Video, sometimes I wonder how long extra analog jacks will hang around(I like them because they are easy to mess with. An analog mixer is fairly easy to make, a digital needs MUCH more work).

I fixed the problem using a simple usb sound card adapter and everything is working well now.

glad you got it solved.

You may also be able to use the second card(usb) to play just some programs like team speak while the onboard card can be used for games.

I have a lenovo laptop with... One jack i bought the trrs jack so to 2 jacked Microsoft headphone would work but it keeps using the desktop mic although the audio does work

Please check the sound settings under recording(Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound - Recording) to see if the MIC can be selected from that location as default.

This thread is older and you may have better luck with a new one.

Hi nukemaster! I went to control panel, but I see no option of adding my microphone to the recording device list. How do I access my headset microphone?

All recording devices should be in the list already.

You can right click in the list to show hidden and disconnected devices to ensure it is not hidden or thinking it is disconnected.

I've been having the same problem described in the thread. I've bought an adapter (the right kind, with the three rings) and it still does not work... it doesn't even show up on the control panel even when i right click to show hidden and disconnected devices. It's not a faulty headset as it works on another computer.
Any thoughts?

This is ridiculous... I tried plugging in a karaoke mic and sound came OUT of it... Is this even normal? ahah

Edit: Needless to say, it does not show up as a microphone in control panel.

I don't know, I'll look into it. But next to the jack there's both a mic and a headphone icon, meaning it can be used for both.

Edit: yep, it's a combo jack.

I have the same problem i know i have the 3 ring one the trrs whatever and in the "recording" it shows up as headset as well as in playback, but it doesnt allow me to connect it? please help i need my mic working soon!

It may be best to start a thread about this issue. Has your computer maker confirmed you have a TRRS jack. LOTS of stores sell the TRRS to 2 x TRS jack adapters now for pretty cheap.

I recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and realised that it had only one audio jack. I thought that to fix this problem it would be as simple as buying a cheap audio jack splitter to use the microphone on my Steelseries Siberia V2 but I still can't use my headset microphone. I have looked at other posts about similar problems but none seem to make any sense to me. Please help me in any way you can.

Plug the TRSS to computer, plug a mic set mic to the Jack input(MIC red)of the combo cord, go in your microphone settings and do the setup mic but before be sure you did put the level at lest 60% in gain to be able to inject some voice when you do the mic setup,when finished it should work,If ever you change a setting you will have to reset your mic setup but be sure to inject some audio levels in the mic level setup...Spent few hours to understand this Lenovo Ideapad sound card and hope it
will stay stable...
