Software :- Computational softwares like MATLAB, Scilab, Visio, Excel
Internet:- General usage like browsing, social networking, videos, music
Other:- Video , Music editing (not much intensive)

My preferences are :-

Preferably Dell, Lenovo

Could you suggest some laptop models or specs for me ?

The IdeaPad from Lenovo is indeed a good choice. Its price point is very good given its configuration. Generally, you will need something with a decent dedicated video card (for your engineering software), and a good amount of RAM (at least 8 GB) for the type of software you'll be using.

Also, go with an Intel i5 or better in the notebook, as you will need good computational prowess, and Intel chips are generally considerably better than AMD chips.

The new Lenovo IdeaPad are your best choice. They have the best performance for your price range. Assuming you are within United States for delivery.
