So I am looking to buy some top notch headphones!
My friend told me that Sennheiser or Rocketfish are both good, however I haven't been able to find any under $300 that are good.

I was thinking of getting either
Tiamat 7.1 Elite
or
Beyerdynamic 250 pro

plus Vantec USB audio adapter for compatibility with my laptop (no dedicated sound card) and my desktop (no 7.1 compatible sound card).

Any help appreciated! thanks :)

The Tiamat 7.1 would work very well, but only with a high quality(and expensive) USB soundcard. If you have the money, go for it and also get the vantech usb soundcard. If you do not want to spend that much money, I would recommend these: http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-audio/razer-megalodon . They have a built in usb soundcard and have virtual 7.1 surround sound. (do not be frightened by virtual surround, it works extremely well.)
