Looking for a Good Laptop for around $1000

Hello

Looking for a new laptop other than a Sony (3rd one that has went dead on me).

I am a student so one I need should be no more than a $1000 because of my budget. The list below is what i like to have.

Monitor: 15.6 or larger would love a 17" though
Keyboard: Would like to have the number pad on the right, them are what I am use to.
CPU: Must be very good performance because I do play games and multi-task daily
RAM: Least 8GB
Storage: Least 500GB 7200 RPM
Optical Drive: DVR R drive
Battery: Being a student and out and about would love a battery life of 4+ hours of battery life
Weight: Not real heavy
Touch Screen: Maybe if it is worth the investment
OS: Windows 7 or Windows 8
USB: 3 or 4 is efficient for me
Audio: 7.1 Dolby or higher

Must be around $500 to no more than a $1000

Any suggestions would be of great help.

Y500 from the Lenovo site would hit all but the audio, it is 5.1 I think.

For Audio it is only mentioned "Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio" so you'd have to check with them (Although I don't think it would be a 7.1). You can get an external USB sound card for abut 100-200$.

yeah, try lenovo ideapad Y500 or Y580, other choice is Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809.

Quick question are the touch screen laptops worth it or would it be better to stay with the non touch screen laptops.

Touch screen PCs are becoming the new normal. Windows 8's new interface was developed primarily for touch. Intel has also changed its laptop partner requirements so that all future Ultrabooks (with Haswell processors) will have to sport a touch screen.

Keep in mind that the touch screen is really just another way to interact with your PC. You still have your keyboard and your mouse (or trackpad) when you want them and can use the touch screen as little or as much as you want. (After using a touch screen for a while, though, you may find yourself attempting to tap and swipe any non-touch displays you come into contact with.)

If the added cost of the touch screen and the possible battery life hit don't matter much to you, you don't have anything to lose—and you might very well enjoy that touch screen as much as you do the one on your tablet.
