I'd recommend a laptop that supports a version of Linux from the manufacturer in addition to Windows OS.
- Get a decent GPU and CPU as you cannot upgrade these 'later on' in a laptop and it sounds like you want more than three years from it.

List the game titles at medium details you want to play.

What laptops are you short-listing for consideration?

For CPU, I want a laptop with Core i7. For games, can not specify certain titles, but I am not aiming to play games like Crysis 3 and Hitman. Actually I am considering buying PS4

Why are you considering a PS4?
- "I want to use it mainly for: programming, web hosting and developing and for learning Linux"

A Playstation 4 isn't going to give you that sort of portable flexability, they even retrospectively pulled Linux support from the PS3 after advertising that it would be supported in the long haul... as such it was a buying point and I believe there was a small class action lawsuit against Sony as a result of it.

Take a look at MSI GE40 2OC-009US (http://www.xoticpc.com/msi-ge40-2oc009us-p-5783.html?wconfigure=yesl). 14 inch(1600*900), i7 4702MQ,GTX 760M 2GB (Crysis 3 on medium), 8GB RAM,128GB SSD + 750GB 7200RPM hard disk all of this at 1266$ (You can upgrade anything as per your requirements) . And yes it weighs just 4.40 lbs and offers a 3 hours+ battery life. The battery life is a little low according to your requirements but that is the compromise you'll have to make.

I also looked at ultrabooks but the specifications you require will be way out of your budget on them.

The GE40 weighs just 4.4 lbs when compared to 5.95 lbs of the Y500. You can upgrade the processor to match the performance of 3630QM (vs 4702MQ, it will be still within tour budget). You'll be able to play almost any game on your laptop (Like on a plane or even on the road). The battery life is same for both of them and with MSI you'll get 2 years US/Canada parts & labor warranty 1 Year Global Warranty w/ Lifetime Tech Support. And again 4.4 lbs vs 5.95 lbs.
