I have a laptop that has been turning off a lot and back on, now it is completely dead. When I hit the power button there is not the slightest bit of a response. I ram a multimeter to the adapter which is fine, I took apart the laptop and touched the metal piece inside the motherboard where it connects to the power plug and it reads. I connected the battery and no luck. So with and without the battery it will not turn on. So what are the chances IT IS THE motherboard that is basically dead?

It is not powering on with battery and not powering without battery. So it is dead no matter what I do. I opened it up and saw the inside of the connection the adapter plugs into, and touched the back part of it where the positive from the adapter touches and touched something negative and it read the correct voltage from the connection. The one confusing part is I wanted to test the voltage from FROM motherboard TO the battery. But that connect has about 6-8 metal flat parts that slide into battery. I was not sure which ones are negative and which are positive (it does not say anywhere) but I think one point it read 4.2 volts or 4. something I did not take the laptop completely apart but the parts of it I did see did not have any burns or black marks and etc. I took out ram, wireless card, and hdd thinking maybe one of those was shorting it out but no luck
