I'm new to this stuff, always just bought a small set from walmart. But, I listen to more music and watch a lot of full HD and I'd like to hear it in a higher quality point than I usually have.
More or less What card should I get? I would like to find a 5.1 system as well if it's worth it. I'm more focused on the "boom" feeling that rumble in my stomach, the house shaking when an explosive goes off in a game or movie. I want to feel it all.

my motherboard is the P67 extreme4 B3. So, it's older. But, there's a lot of audio connectors I've never used. I figured it would be worth using them if I can rather than buying a new audio card.

My question more or less is what brands are known for good audio stuff. I remember Bose. I had a headset of theirs, was a glorious headset. But, they're stuff seems a bit overpriced or is it just the really high end stuff?

Oh, I don't expect to spend much but $600 would be a limit. I'd prefer staying under it. Don't see a reason to go too crazy on an audio system :p.

600.00 is a decent budget. Going used, especially if you have a local stereo shop around that sells new/used stuff. That way you can listen before you buy. Plus they allow trade in. Like for example I buy an used amp from them for 500.00, I can trade that in for full value to get something different or another amp.

What is the set you bought from Wally World. You might be able to incorporate some of the speakers for now until you upgrade.

If you are looking for computer type speakers, then I can't really help you since I don't do computer speakers. heh. I usually recommend good home stereo or HT type speakers.

Unless you are getting crappy sound from your mobo, I don't recommend a sound card until you buy speakers( or some amp/speakers) just because the speakers have to reproduce the sound so you want to spend most of the money on speakers.

PS: Nice mobo btw.

Happy listening, the Prisoner...

It would be for a computer, but using the 3.5mm ports not usb. It has 8 channel audio in the motherboard (6 ports). Oh I can't venture to say for sure. They were cheaper ones. I'm actually using 2 different sets of speakers with a Y. One came with a sub, but it blew. I'm sure I could add a nice sub alone to these and it would sound pretty decent.
I will look around here, never looked for a stereo shop. Don't think there's anything around here for that to be honest though.

This mobo was among the first released, the B3 model, old, but it's performed quite well I do say!

6 ports for analog, not a bad choice if you can find a receiver anymore with those. Only mid to high end(integrated amps use analog anymore unfortunately) meaning expensive!

The mobo has HDMI and optical outs too, I would recommend HDMI. take a look around for used stuff, your money will go much farther and 600.00 is a decent budget for used.
