dell laptop some keys not working

If you bought the laptop brand new, it should still be under it's warranty. Considering you didn't do anything to the keyboard, you can get it fixed by dell. However they may take a while to do it. Depending on the model, an option is to buy the keyboard from amazon or any retailer and get somebody to fit it for you, or do it yourself if you can. I ended up having to replace my Dell inspiron 1546 keyboard, luckily for me, I found a tutorial on youtube which made it fairly simple.

Since it's a quick use button, could it be a software that stopped working? Might not be a mechanical problem, just saying.

the button is a square with a star in i next to is a button that looks like a heart beat on one of those machines and the one next to that is two cogs

It should say on a sticker found somewhere on your laptop, or the box it came in. (By model I mean, for example "Dell Inspiron 1546")

To be honest, your best bet is to send in to Dell and just have them fix it. Have you looked at whether you've uninstalled any software/drivers that could possibly relate to your keyboard functions?

Edit: Ah right, so it's the Inspiron 15R 5520 I assume? If you're comfortable yourself, you could buy a new keyboard for it online and use this: http/www.youtube.com/watch?v=Akl6NzXTz9M video to change it yourself. I don't recommend that though, I suggest you check your drivers/software first, you may be missing something. If that's not the case, contact Dell, or change the keyboard yourself and see if that fixes the problem. (Suggest you contact Dell, assuming your laptop is under warranty).

yeh i thought about that but i have no clue what the dell instant launch button would be under

It's possible that the hotkeys might be disabled in the instant launch manager?
