Edit: simply it doesn't seem normal for it to run at 100+ with just WoW char select screen and CPUID running. Am I wrong? Should I install drivers etc an wait for the house to cool down?

Just picked up this laptop. It is refurbished.

Running World of Warcraft (char selection screen), it hit 50 degrees. Fired up CPUID and it jumped to 100 degrees to 102 instantly.

Haven't updated any drivers or updates. The house is pretty warm and stuffy at the moment. All I can think of that might be causing such a huge temperature.

Is there a way to tell if the laptops fan could be busted or what would you do to troubleshoot this?

Windows 8
15.6 inches 1366 x 768 pixels
Processor: 1.9 GHz A-Series Quad-Core A8-4500M
RAM: 4 GB SDRAM
Hard Drive: 500 GB SATA
Graphics Coprocessor: AMD Radeon HD 7640G Graphics
Graphics Card Ram Size 512 MB

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a major problem if it's jumping that high, and that quick. Can you see if the fans are working fine? Has the laptop been cleaned out properly? Sometimes things that come refurbished, are really not taken care of. You can try updating the drivers, may have an effect, may not. That temperature jump seems abnormal. Just check the fans/vents for dust, see if the fan itself is working, and if it persists, it's best to take it back to where you got it from. Does the CPU throttle at all? Like do you experience any lag spikes, and after a certain amount of time does it shut off?
