I see many forums suggesting to get the lenovo w 530 with upgrades because it was made to process 3d modeling. However, the Y-series is much cheaper and made for gaming. Although I love to game, it means a lot more if I can finish my architecture projects faster. I run Photoshop, AutoCad, Rhino 3D and Vray at the same time. Is it worth saving around 600$ to buy the y-500 instead of the w530? Will there be a significant difference in there rendering capabilities?

I do agree, that Lenovo ThinkPad W530 is far superior than the Y500 model, simply because of the fact it supports faster processor, higher amount of memory, higher screen resolution, better graphics, the most importantly battery life is far than better, also the optional SSD capacity is higher. I think you can do the math.

Yes, there should significant difference in rendering. Moreover ThinkPad W530 is a Workstation based laptop which suits your requirement perfectly. Hope that helps.
