Do speakers use up PSU wattage?

Solution
we already answered your question.

2.0 unpowered speakers do draw from your computer but it really isnt all that much.

2.1 powered speakers and above are self powered (hence being called powered speakers)

in any case they do not significantly affect your psu.

------

if you look at the newegg photos you can clearly see that this is a powered speaker set.

i just restated the answers to your question again.....

barely, and if the speaker needs more juice it will come with it's own power brick (or built in into the sub for example)
dont worry too much, better check if you psu is of good quality, be concerned more with that than the speaker power consumption :)

I've got a pretty good psu, 550w 80 plus bronze

its not the wattage or efficiency rating that cons is worried about.

some brands are really really bad and if you push them too hard they could fail on you and potentially take your pc down with it.

typical middle ranged gaming systems draw about 450-500w maximum 550w is not much headroom and you absolutely do not want to run your psu at 100% load. you may want to load up a system benchmark and plug the pc into a wattage calculator to see what your total draw is. you may be able to o/c a bit but it may be worth looking into a new larger psu depending on what the actual draw of your system components is.

remember, never 100% load a psu.

2.0 speakers do not draw much power. 2.1 and larger systems normally come with a power brick and are "powered speakers" so they do not draw from your pc.

in any case i agree that a speaker system isnt going to affect you much.

I'm not concerned with wattage stand alone, I'm concerned about whether or not a sound system would use much or any of its wattage. If the sound systems draw from a different power source and are independent then I'm not worried. That's all I need to know and I haven't really gotten a straight up answer from googling.

Sorry, didnt see the answer first time. Stopped reading at "never load a psu 100%" fore some reason. I guess after the ------ I thought the rest was a signature lol

i tend to use ------- marks as dividers in my posts to seperate different ideas to prevent the "wall of text" syndrome.

i get where you are coming from though.

my signature is the pretty spiffy animation i created in the bottom right :)

theres a post in entertainment about wallpapers and the OP there creates avatars and backgrounds. i made this one myself though.

----

remember what i said about the psu though. you may be fine in some cases but just dont overdo it.
