Not really sure what your problem is here. Is it that you don't have an external monitor, that you don't know how to connect an external monitor, that you don't have video on the external monitor, that you don't know how to format the laptop (although I wouldn't be formatting a laptop if only the screen was broken)?

Better go get the Operating System installation disc that came with your laptop and re-install it then.

Are you saying that the laptop monitor works during BIOS but then switches to all black when Windows should be loading? If your laptop is working fine I wouldn't recommend formatting it. Formatting a hard drive won't fix a physically broken laptop screen.

If you can get the external monitor to work, and the laptop boots into Windows, but the laptop screen itself is switching to black when Windows is booting then it may just be a display setting issue. If you can boot to Windows with the external monitor try reducing the resolution in the display settings.
